Monkey Meets Chameleon!

“But the LORD said to Samuel, ‘Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.’” 1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

“What goes into someone’s mouth does not defile them, but what comes out of their mouth, that is what defiles them.’‘Are you still so dull?’ Jesus asked them. ‘Don’t you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? But the things that come out of a person’s mouth come from the heart, and these defile them. For out of the heart come evil thoughts – murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. These are what defile a person; but eating with unwashed hands does not defile them.’” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭15:11, 16-20‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

“He said to them, ‘You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of others, but God knows your hearts. What people value highly is detestable in God’s sight.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭16:15‬ ‭NIVUK‬‬

Once upon a time, a certain Mr. Monkey and a certain Mr.Chameleon came face to face on a tree branch, and immediately became jealous of each other. Chameleon wished he could spring nimbly and quickly from tree to tree and have as many friends as Monkey, but oh how slow he was! As for Monkey, he was ‘green’ with envy. He wished that instead of expending so much energy, tiring himself jumping around, he could just sit down lazily in one place, blend into the background and hide away from all his noisy friends and especially his enemies. He would have some solitary peace and quiet once and for all!

So for the rest of their lives these two neighbours became inconsolably miserable even as they worked out ways to fulfill their dreams.

But Oh! Hold it! They did both eventually become great inventors! Monkey created a special bleach plus an array of colourful paints to do makeovers every morning before going to meet his awestruck friends. And Chameleon came up with a special catapult to wow his slower mates as he whizzed awkwardly from branch to branch. What successful patented businesses they soon had going! And what an intricate range of complex policies, complete with health and safety clauses, they put in place! And how cleverly they lobbied and eventually passed through their parliamentary or congressional hearings, laws that made it obligatory for every single monkey and chameleon to possess and to use their contraptions!

Yet whenever they both met, Mr. Monkey, now Monkey Emeritus Esq. and Mr. Chameleon, also now Chameleon Emeritus Esq., would just act as though they had not so much as noticed each other. They would just pretend to go about their normal business! They would stop only just for a moment to stare each up and down with great envy.

On the inside they were still both very very unhappy creatures!

I am sure that you are probably wondering whether you are Monkey or Chameleon. But that is not the point.

The question is “what is it that is really going on inside your heart? “. Only God and you can tell. Are you battling with jealousy or envy or some other vice? Are you trying to justify wrong beliefs or doing what you know inside your heart is plain wrong?

Did you know that God made you for a special reason and purpose? Did you know that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life?

Remember that the most important change you can make in your life is a good change of heart.

You can gain the most beautiful change of heart by humbling your inner self  to God through Jesus Christ.

Take a moment now and pray to God to help you to get rid of all the hurt, the jealousy, envy, bitterness and unforgiveness or any other wrong things that may still be hiding in your heart.

Do this today and you will discover real peace of heart and mind!
